You never mean to tell your own story...but every writer, in some way, is always telling their own story. Every artist, on some level, is always painting his self-portrait. I am a collection of the art, music and stories that I create.
I have a B.A. in Theatre/History, a M.S. in Counseling Psychology and I'm currently at work on my Ph.D in Health Psychology. I have been, in the past, both an actress and a singer/songwriter. I wrote and produced three albums of original music and I do still occasionally perform as a solo artist if it is for a good cause. Lately I have again felt the artistic itch and I recently started a new hard rock project with a few other extremely talented musicians which we call "Demur". It is quite fun being a front woman again. I am also a bit of a fledgling novelist. I have had good reviews about my book thus far from the patient guinea pigs I allow/force to read it. I just have to finish it now. lol.
I've worked as a therapist with seriously emotionally disturbed children and teenagers for the last several years and I found great satisfaction in my work most days. Lately, however, I've become more and more convinced that I should be a college professor with a private practice on the side instead of a therapist who occasionally teaches.
On the religious side, I must tell you that I am a Christian Anarchist (aka, not so fond of patriarchal hierarchies). I have faith not because I'm simpleminded and I was raised in the tradition but rather because I see a certain divine symmetry to all of creation from the "big bang", through the evolution of man up till now. Unlike some who claim the title of Christian I do not judge those who act or think differently than I do. I instead follow Christ's example of unconditional love. If you need a friend, I am more than willing to extend that branch of friendship to you regardless of race, creed, religion or economic background...unless you annoy me...then I will love you all the same...I just won't talk to you unless it is an emergency. lol.
Thus far the great loves of my life have been books. They were there for me to be the friends I lacked throughout childhood and they are the comfort and inspiration of my adulthood. They've taken me far across the world and universe and as far forward or back in time as can be imagined. I can usually be found either reading or within five feet of a book of some sort at any given time...lol...
I have three children...furry little ones. I have a solid black Minature Dachsund named Artemis, a black cat named Jane Eyre and a Ragdoll Tuxedo Cat named Jean-Luc Picard. They are my babies and to be honest, disliking animals, specifically mine, is and will always be a dealbreaker.
I have a near obsessive love of all things science-fiction and I can hold my own at any Trek convention. Yes, I am guilty of watching far too much television, but its okay because I'm just as obsessed with literature. If you are playing a trivia game, I am the one you want on your side when we start talking entertainment or literature.
I am a pretty self-contained person and I take care of myself and my own needs. I don't believe in being functionally needy or in being overly jealous. I am generally pretty hard to offend and I like having friends from many different backgrounds. I am the kind of person you either love or hate with very little middle ground but I like to think more love me than hate me...I try for that at least
