I am newly returned to the area, and the people I know are are all gone, or are couples with couple lives, or just live in far suburbs, and I never see them. I am smart, creative, love talking about politics, pop culture, philosophy, almost anything. I retain a ridiculous quantity of trivia in my head. I am well brought up and enjoy fine living, but also adore dive bars. I enjoy irony, but find genuine enthusiasm far more rewarding. I am no-nonsense, yet exceptionally silly. I lived in New York City and Los Angeles for 15 years, and returned here last year. I am learning to re-appreciate my home town.
I'd love to say Katharine Hepburn, but my voice isn't that weird. I'd love to say Queen Elizabeth I, but I'm not that severe. I'd love to say Rita Hayworth, but I don't have that bod. I'd like to think Barbara Stanwyck would be the ideal cinematic embodiment of my demeanor. People notice my height first, because I'm almost 6 feet tall. Appearance matters to me insomuch as confidence and being comfortable in one's skin is an essential element in being happy and looking good, but as for specifics, that doesn't matter.
I am here looking for male or female friends who are smart and fun and like-minded. If I should happen to meet male friends that turn into something more, that would be great, but it's not my primary purpose. I am interested in people who like going to all sorts of movies--from blockbusters to classics to off-the-wall midnight movies. I like people who like to go listen to music (not generally of the ear-bleeding sort, but I'm pretty flexible). I like people who like to take advantage of all the city has to offer, from street festivals, farmer's markets, museums, low-key theater, baseball or hockey games (I'm a huge Caps fan, childhood Os fan learning to love the Nats; the Skins are always in my blood), funky bars and ethnic restaurants--and love to talk about everything under the sun while they do it. I am liberal politically and though I'm no activist, I am aware and active. I smoke, drink, and eat red meat, and am unlikely to stop any of those things anytime soon, though I don't always have to do any of those things. Mainly, I'd like to meet cool people who are conveniently located who like to do things in this lovely town.
