- In my own words:

I'm a painter who has also written about art professionally (and I sometimes still do). I love almost all genres of the visual arts and performing arts, as well as architecture, archaeology, and anthropology, although I often find the contemporary artworld a painful reality (mostly because of its politics). A few of my favorite 'contemporary' artists are Richard Serra, Philip Guston, Eva Hesse, Daisy Youngblood and Bill Viola. Another of my addictions is travel. I recently went to Morocco and traveled around -- all of it was fantastic, but the Sahara is what haunts me... hypnotic in its stillness and sensuality. It is very much a recurring dream -- as are a number of places I've visited -- in India, Peru, Mexico and Guatemala. I like science (I have worked as a grants manager for a microbiology/genetics lab and a layperson's science writer). I would love to meet someone who could explain string theory to me and who is interested in ethics as it relates to scientific discoveries (and to all things). Humanism is a very important part of life to me. And I therefore have huge concerns about (and often feel disturbed by) the current state of politics, our environment, and our national culture. But - one tries to stay positive nevertheless. I have a day-job at a university, which has some merits and pays the rent. I love being with people (especially people who are intelligent, interesting, witty, funny, or just good-hearted). But I also need some time to myself. Some activities I enjoy (besides travel and painting) are: having interesting conversations, going to museums and galleries, seeing dance performances and theatre, being out in the natural world, learning new things, attending lectures or courses on subjects that interest me, going to concerts or clubs to hear music. I especially like men who have strong character, kind hearts and an easy, low-key kind of confidence. And men who like to talk about ideas as well as have fascinating experiences -- who have a good sense of humor, a reasonable amount of energy and who are generally at peace with themselves.
