I'm a journalist that wants to master his craft. At work, I learn from my colleagues' edits and stories. At home, I learn by reading books on different types of writing. They range from classics such as The Elements of Style to more recent books on academic writing, website design, and advertising.
I'm also a 25-year-old that is still figuring out what he wants from life and how to get it. Since I'm as human as anyone, I figure I can get the answer by studying psychology and others' experiences. In addition to talking with friends, I read books that try to define the key components of happiness, offer advice on achieving goals, or explain how to express affection in relationships.
When I'm not reading or talking, I try to be productive in other ways. For example, I'm making an online version of a card game I enjoy; posting on icouldbe.org, a site for mentoring high school students; and learning to drive.
In my less productive moments, I'm a geek. I love card, board and video games that give me an excuse to think, such as the deckbuilding game Thunderstone, the dice-manipulation game To Court the King, or the Scrabble-like math game Zatre. I also have a blast with Dungeons and Dragons. I'm not the best player, but it's still fun, and it gives my friends and I ample fodder for jokes.
I also enjoy medieval fantasy and science fiction books. My favorites include C.S. Friedmen's Coldfire Trilogy, which taught my sixth grade self to see the vast sea of gray between right and wrong; and Robin Hobb's Farseer Trilogy, which chronicles a royal assassin's struggle between embracing responsibility to gain fulfillment or abandoning it to gain freedom.
I'm looking for someone that shares my interest in games, books, psychology, or writing; cares how she treats other people; and enjoys discussing different topics.
