I’m a researcher, an information professional, a perennial student of the world, an instructor, and a lawyer turned academic. I’m freethinking, progressive, quietly countercultural, ironically humorous, neither mainstream nor bohemian. I suspect our species' surviival may depend on exchanging mindless pursuit of material excess for a culture which better acknowledges and addresses enduring human needs.
In my personal dealings, I tend to be plainspoken and direct, and I prize those qualities in others.
I enjoy activities that exercise the body and/or lead to lively discussion. But often I like to stay home, read, listen to music, think quietly and dream. Respect for broad culture -- for the pleasures of quotidian life and leisure time, for the elegance of forms -- resonates deeply with me. I have a high tolerance for the unconventional, a love of the absurd, and an appreciation for fine feline companionship. As time permits, I’m also a hiker, amateur naturalist, wildflower and waterfall lover, a birder… striving to be alive, present and open to joy.
I have a dog and a cat, both from animal rescue/shelters.
I admire people who have the courage to look inside themselves -- and people who don't take the world around them at face value. I hope to find a man of strong but unpretentious intellect, perhaps someone who loves language, measures the full weight of words, and expresses himself from the heart as well as the mind. His herd instinct is weak or kept well in check. While stable and responsible, he understands that an elegant life may have little to do with expensive possessions. He won’t settle for serial monogamy and seeks a partner to last a lifetime.
